Nothing but Net

After officially opening in June, CYC-Calumet Heights ramped up summer engagement with some incredibly fun activities and clubs! Center staff came together to host events for Calumet Heights kids to get involved and experience new things. During Summer Fun, sports clubs were introduced for the kids so they could learn about health, wellness, and teamwork, all while playing and having a ball! 

CYC-Calumet Heights kids loved figuring out the elements of basketball. From learning the rules, to watching the pros, CYC kids thought this club was a slam dunk! Through an amazing partnership with the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Calumet Heights children were able to meet and learn from the UIC Women’s Basketball team. At our Center, the UIC’s Women’s Basketball Team came to host workshops and teach the young players more about the sport. CYC kids had so much fun getting exercise and strengthening their new skills during these lessons. 

At the end of the summer basketball sessions, these CYC students had the opportunity to take a field trip and watch the UIC Flames Women’s Basketball team play a game on the court! The Flames lit up the court and helped us ignited a passion for sports in our Center. A big thank you to UIC for helping CYC-Calumet Heights have a baller summer and teaching us to play like pros!
