In the late 1800s, this neighborhood started off as home to Irish-Americans who were irrigation building the Illinois and Michigan canal. By the 1950s, it was home to many Italian, Croatian, Chinese and Lithuanian immigrants and then Mexican immigrants by 1990. Home to five Chicago mayors, including Richard M. Daley and his father, Bridgeport is rooted in political history. Today, it is a thriving community and boasts rich ethnic diversity.
