William James Kelley, Sr. Memorial
We at CYC share our condolences for the loss of our friend, William James Kelley, Sr, beloved father of CYC Board Member, Bill Kelley. William was exceptionally proud of Bill’s work with CYC and his family has chosen to honor his legacy through a memorial fund.
“Kelley,” as he was fondly called, was born March 20, 1943, in Jackson, MS. His loving parents, Percy & Louise Kelley, brought him to Chicago (Bronzeville area) in June of 1946. He loved Chicago and often claimed it as his place of birth.
In 1964, he married the love of his life Gwendolyn Diane Ward and they had three children: William James Kelley, Jr. (Heather Ann); Steven Kelley; and Ebonie Sara Louise Kelley. Committed to family, Kelley instilled the values of family, faith, and work ethic in his children and grandchildren.
Kelley was a proud U.S. steelworker for 46 years (ArcelorMittal) and devoted USW Local 1011 member. He began his union career as a Representative and retired as Chairman of the Grievers in East Chicago, IN.
Kelley was called home on the morning of October 30, 2020. He was preceded in death by his son Leonard Kelley, his parents Percy and Louise Kelley, and his Brother Michael Kelley.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Gwendolyn; their children William James Kelley, Jr (Heather Ann), Steven Kelley, and Ebonie Sara Louise Kelley; his beloved sister Jackie Whitted (Keith); his son Jaime Bell and special daughter Lolita Jones; brother-in-law Gordon Andrews; Aunts, Virginia Woodard and Lorraine Hays; and numerous loving grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and dear friends.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions imposed by the State of Illinois, the memorial service will be held privately on Sunday, November 8, 2020.
