One of the original three Centers to form CYC in 1956, CYC–Elliott Donnelley Youth Center offered well-trained youth-development specialists who give individual attention to children and teens each year to help them with academic achievement and social and life skills development.

As of 2019, CYC transitioned to a new school-based program in Bronzeville at Ida B. Wells Preparatory Elementary Academy. CYC’s 21st AVE will be implemented at this school.

Bronzeville

Bronzeville is one of the most significant neighborhoods in the development of 20th-Century urban America. By 1920, Chicago was one of the top destinations for African-Americans leaving the South in search of a better life and job opportunities. Bronzeville became home to many of these Southerners. The neighborhood was known as the Black Metropolis and was home to prominent historical figures, including Ida B. Wells, Margaret Taylor-Burroughs, Sam Cooke, Lou Rawls and Louis Armstrong. Today, it is a thriving and proud community and home to the DuSable Museum of African American History.
