We often hear about the terrible violence and persistent poverty facing Chicago. We learn of the countless communities, families, and children who suffer. This news can make us lose hope and forget that there are other stories within our city—stories of tenacity, persistence, and courage. Though these stories often go untold, these are the stories that you make possible. We want to tell you about Asia, a high school freshman in Bronzeville who is developing her first website and campaigning for student council. We want you to know about Brenda, a mother in South Shore who is taking weekly parenting classes to help her daughter thrive. We want you to hear about the group of 8-10 year-olds from North Lawndale—Donnel, Jaliyah, Tariah, Marissa, Jazmin and Dejeon—who visited the White House to accept the President’s Environmental Youth Award for their community peace garden.
We want you to know these stories because they happen at Chicago Youth Centers (CYC) every day. You make them happen. Thanks to your support, CYC is a safe place where youth aspire, dream, and achieve. At CYC, we don’t just get our children through the day; we prepare them for life.
At a time when so many of us feel helpless to respond to the violence around us, we want you to know that your support makes a clear difference in the lives of 2,000 children and their families.
Click through the photos above and read CYC’s annual report to see your support in action.
The need in our communities is great, but we know that our work makes a difference. Today, we are asking our supporters to donate to CYC’s Annual Fund or join our monthly giving program to ensure Chicago’s children continue to have a safe space to explore, dream, and grow. 87% of every gift directly supports CYC’s transformative programs. By giving today, you write tomorrow’s stories of hope. When you invest in CYC, our children’s future is driven not by violence or poverty, but by possibility.
