Chicago Youth Centers (CYC) knows that when teens are provided with the right tools to lead among their peers and within their communities, their futures are brighter in terms of academics, career and adult life. CYC’s Teen Leadership Development (TLD) program is specifically designed to promote short- and long-term positive outcomes. CYC incorporates pro-social activities that inspire CYC members to develop their existing strengths, gain new ones and then apply their strengths to foster positive outcomes within their communities, schools, organizations, peer groups and families.

CYC’s TLD program prepares teens to become leaders and to achieve success in school as well as preparation for college and/or career by providing middle and high school youth (13–18 years of age) an opportunity for learning and personal development through clubs that meet their needs and interests. Each club includes the following core components: leadership development, skill development, service learning, extended learning, mentoring, and college and career readiness. All high school juniors and seniors participate in CYC’s post-secondary transition activities to ensure that they complete specific college and career readiness activities in the two years prior to high school graduation and college matriculation.
