Service Awards 2010-11

 

Each year, Chicago Youth Centers' Youth Service awards are presented to outstanding youth who have given extraordinary volunteer service to CYC centers and their communities. One person from each center and program is eligible to receive a Youth Service Award. From this group of annual awardees, one youth is also selected as the All-Agency Youth Service Award Recipient. Here are the following awardees for the 2010-11 year.

ABC Polk Bros. -- Tyran Patterson -- Tyran has been involved in ABC Polk Bros. Youth Center School Age and Teen Leadership Development programs since 2007. He has taken advantage of many of the center’s opportunities, from club programming to field trips and summer employment. Tyran was a coach for the center’s teen-led basketball camp and regularly helps out at various family and community events held at ABC Polk Bros. He also can be seen presenting his “Peace in the Hood” power-point show at various youth summits.  

Centro Nuestro -- Donisha Jones--Since becoming part of Centro Nuestro’s Teen Leadership Program in 2009, Donisha has found meaningful opportunities to work with her peers in a very positive and enthusiastic way. She provides tutoring help and has demonstrated leadership skills as Vice President of the Centro Nuestro’s Teen Leadership Council. She is currently a high school junior and has a special interest in pursuing a career in the Culinary Arts when she graduates.

 Rebecca K. Crown Youth Center -- Terrance Booker -- Terrance has been a member of the Crown Center for six years and is active in the Teen Leadership Development program. He is currently a junior at South Shore High School—School of the Arts. He has worked as a Crown Summer Youth Employee and worked with the school-age members as an assistant in the very busy classrooms. With a strong dedication to his academics, Terrance and his positive leadership skills have made an impact on his community.

Elliott Donnelley Youth Center -- Imani West-- Imani has been involved at EDYC for three years. She is currently enrolled in all honors classes at Jones College Prep and maintains a GPA of 4.4. She dedicates her time at EDYC as a tutor for the school age and Teen Leadership Development groups. She is also a member of her school’s Photography Club and their orchestra, studying the cello. She is also a CYC ITW Watson Scholar and has received a CYC Yes I Can award for academic excellence.

Fellowship House -- Hope Massallo -- Hope has been a member of Fellowship House for ten years and is now in the Teen Leadership Development program. In her time at CYC, Hope has taken advantage of activity clubs at Fellowship House including digital arts, social media, choir, and community service.Hope is an instrumental member of the Fellowship House Teen Council. She currently is working on an asset map that will help identify resources for the youth and families in the Bridgeport community.
