50th Anniversary Building Futures Campaign

Campaign goal: $5 million
Raised as of July 1, 2009: $4 million
A one-million-dollar Campaign gift is setting off waves of excitement throughout CYC. Polk Bros., whose distinguished history of outstanding support for CYC dates back to 1989, has seen much growth and many changes—including wear and tear on the many well-used buildings—some more than 80 years old.
Their million-dollar Campaign gift will provide for a broad array of improvements at the nine centers and Camp Rosenthal. The gift’s impact is transformational, as can be witnessed in when an entrance to an eighty-year-old building is remodeled to provide a safe, well lit welcome center, or a state-of-the-art new College Readiness computer lab is sustained by the replacement of an outdated HVAC system.
Campaign goals:
I. Youth Workers and Mentors $ .75 million
Caring professionals are touchstones, particularly for at-risk young people whose lives are frequently buffeted by circumstances beyond their control. Investment in our youth workers, who engage and guide our children one-on-one, is at the very heart of CYC’s continuing success. In addition, CYC must provide a mentor for every CYC child and teen member in need of individualized attention.
II. Programs and Curricula $1.75 million
We offer our children and teen members programs designed to meet their needs in the 21st Century. We must invent and invest in programs and curricula that give every child an opportunity to learn and excel—creating an opportunity for every child to graduate from high school and go on to college or to meaningful employment.
III. Centers and Camp Rosenthal $2.5 million
Advanced learning technologies proliferate rapidly, and CYC’s neighborhood places and spaces need redesign and renovation to accommodate these new learning modalities and to comply with government safety and accessibility codes. At Camp Rosenthal, these improvements will help children and teens discover the natural world around them in a different way, expanding their horizons and creating opportunities for new thinking and achievements.
